How to Insert Links into Your Web Pages
Transcript
Hi, and welcome to another Sunburnt video tutorial. In this video we're going to show you how to insert links into your web pages.
Once again, he we are on the demo server and what we're going to do first is link our new sponsors logo to their website. We've already logged in so we just need to follow the 'edit this page' link to bring up the editor. Select the logo and click the 'Insert Link' button which is the little globe with a chain in front. Type in the URL, which is www.getsunburnt.com in this case and press okay. Let's save that and have a look at it.
You'll notice that now when I hover over the logo you will see a hand icon, which means it is linked, and if we click on the logo we're taken to the Sunburnt website. We generally call this type of link an external link because it takes us to a different website, but what if we want to link to a page on our own website? Well, we can do that too. Let's go back to the demo site by pressing the back button.
To create an internal link we need to make sure we get the correct URL. For example, to link to one of our product pages we can first go to this page and then copy the URL from the browser's location bar. Alternatively we can find an existing link to the page we want, such as the one in the menu, and right click to select 'Copy Link Location', or 'Copy Shortcut' if you're using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Now we'll go back to the edit the sponsors page, and this time instead of linking an image, we'll type some new text for the link. Select the new text and click on the 'Insert Link' button. We can now paste the URL by right clicking and selecting paste, or by pressing CTRL-V on the keyboard. Next, click okay and the text we typed is now linked.
Let's save the page and test it out. It works!
Thanks for watching this Sunburnt video tutorial, and good luck inserting links into your web pages.
